Fargo-Moorhead (WDAY TV) - Our car batteries are taking a beating in this cold snap, and tow truck operators say you should know what your car can handle when it comes to jump-starting them.

Some cars only have remote terminals under the hood, with the actual battery in the back of the car. Some car makers advise against jump starting a car, because of all the special systems in vehicles these days.

When in doubt, check your car's manual.

Jared Baer – Cenex Main and 4th Street: “If you have access to a battery charger it is better for the car and if you are jumping a car, let it sit for 10 minutes probably instead of trying to right away to jump start the car.”

Tow truck operators say there are cars with electrical and computer parts that don't respond well to jump-starts.
