Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Some of you were lucky enough to have the day off. Others, not so lucky. They had to work in our frigid weather.
The cold, is one thing.
Jason Solem/City of Fargo: "I've lived here my whole life though so it's nothing new."
Getting used to it, is something else.
Jason Solem: "You don't forget too easy."
Windchills whipping up to negative 30
Jason Solem: "Just got stay busy, stay movin', stay warm."
But it doesn't keep jason down.
Jason Solem: "Just good warm boots and lots of layers up top."
He spends hours out in these sub zero temps, making over 400 stops all over Fargo.
Jason Solem: "It's not bad. I mean it's cold but the wind's not blowing a hundred miles an hour. It could always be worse."
To him, it just has to be done. And across town, Dave Spooner says the same thing.
Dave Spooner/Fargo Jet Center: "It's the worst of the year so far. I don't have any delusions, it's going to get worse this year."
Here at the Fargo Jet Center, there's no hiding from the frigid air.
Dave Spooner: "It's hurts. It always hurts the first couple of times."
But spooner and the men are always prepared for the worst.
"If it's really bad we will get something around our neck. Just slits left for the eyes on the really bad days."
Crews out here spend hours fueling up facing this wicked, Mid-Western weather.
"On days like this you try to think of the June and July days when I'm out here in short sand tennis shoes and a short sleeve shirt. There's days where that's the only thing that gets you through."
Both workers told us, they do take breaks inside, to warmup whenever they need to.
