Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Odds are, you probably warmed up your car before heading off to work this morning.

Police say be careful. They're warning drivers to lock their doors, and set the brake, before leaving the keys inside. It's all too common to find your vehicle missing, if you've left it running with the keys inside.

Police say it's already happened a number of times this year.

Lt. Joel Vettel with the Fargo Police says, "certainly an inconvenience the owner of the vehicle but also an inconvenience for law enforcement. As they have to spend resources trying to find the vehicle and certainly try and find the perpetrator which are often fairly difficult to do as far as finding who is responsible."

Fargo Police also remind drivers that leaving your vehicle running on the street without being locked, is against city ordnance.
