Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- Grand Forks is launching a first of its kind event for Martin Luther King Junior Day.

The event kicks off at 11, Monday morning with a unity walk. It'll start on the steps of Central High School and go to the Empire Arts Center.

Once there, there'll be a noon program with artists, speakers and performers.

UND Grad Student, Jenny Wirth, says, "We all our equal and I would love for us to continue to move forward and embrace that within our community as well as celebrate the different cultures that we have here. I am very passionate, it is something that's important. It's important for our community to take part in and I'm excited that they have the opportunity now."

Students from the UND and the U of M Crookston organized the event.
