Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- For the first time in nearly 3 decades. North dakota is looking at substantial increases in hunting licenses.
A reserve fund used to fund Game and Fish is hurting, because of things like harsh winters and fewer licenses. So, the department is proposing a 10-percent increase in hunting license fees across the board.
Several sportsmen testified in support of the fee increases. Director, Terry Steinwand, says hunting and fishing fees are a primary source of the agency's funding.
Steinwand says, "If passed, deer license would be $25. you can't get a box of shells for $25. Fishing license increase it's equal to two scoops of minnows and gallon of gas. Put it into perspective."
An amendment was added to the Bill that would also increase the fees for boat registration and fishing licenses.
