(WDAY TV) -- The only word to define this weekend for college hockey fans of both Minnesota and North Dakota is bittersweet. The two programs have developed one of the most storied rivalries in all of college sports.
But, this weekend in Minneapolis will be the last meeting between the two for
at least a few years.
The two of them are heading to different conferences, and the two are not scheduled to meet in the near future. Adding a little fuel to the fire is the fact that both are ranked in the top 6 in the country, with the Gophers at number one.
Joe Gleason, UND Defenseman, says, "I think anyone would be lying if they told you 'oh it's just another game, like it's just the same thing.' Emotions are high and that's for everyone and that's just a part of rivalries, it's one of the greatest ones in all of sports."
Danny Kristo, UND Forward, says, "It's the one game where I would hate to lose, if I have to lose to anyone they would be the last team I ever wanted to lose to. That's because they are a good team."
Dave Hakstol, UND Head Coach, says, "I love this series, that's because it brings out the very best in everybody, it challenges everybody to be at their best. It brings a ton of passion on both sides and that for sure carries over to the fans on both sides."
Tonight's game starts at the top of the hour, you can listen to the game on AM-970 WDAY. Tomorrow's game is a 5 pm start.
