Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Local school officials say they would welcome additional funding for school security and counseling.

As part of a plan to curb gun violence, President Barack Obama yesterday called for more aid for schools to hire school resource officers, counselors, and psychologists.

Fargo Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Schatz says he feels comfortable with current school security, but would welcome more help.

Dr. Jeffery Schatz, Fargo Schools Superintendent: "If we can get additional assistance from a federal level or a state level to help us do more in our schools, I mean we'd be excited about that. When it comes to counselors working with kids, whether it might be more SROs for schools, those types of things, I think those are things that would be welcomed by school districts."

We also contacted Moorhead schools, but were unable to reach school officials today.
