Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) - A big break in income taxes could be on the way, if a Minot lawmaker gets his way.

Republican Representative Scott Louser has authored a bill that would suspend personal income tax collection in North Dakota for the next 2 years.

The state sits on a budget surplus of over a billion dollars, thanks in large part to a massive energy boom in the Bakken region.

St. Rep. Scott Louser, (R) Minot "It is bold, and it is aggressive, but it is a step in the right direction and I think it is responsible to attempt it for two years and see where it leads."

The Governors of both Louisiana and Nebraska have pushed for income tax elimination already this year.
