Clay County considering allowing livestock in rural subdivisions

Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Clay County is considering allowing livestock in less rural subdivisions.

At a planning commission meeting tonight leaders were discussing a change to the current policy. Right now, livestock is allowed in rural areas.

A homeowner wants to have chickens in a subdivision. Those lots can be as small as an acre and a half. Commissioners are weighing their options, saying depending on how loud, and what type of livestock it is, it could cause concern.

Tim Magnusson – Clay County Planning Director: “Our definition of livestock covers everything from horses, cattle, to chickens, ducks, geese, pigs. That would be an interesting one.”

The homeowner who prompted the discussions lives near Hawley.
