State says no need to rush on Minnesota tax filings

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — When it comes to those 2013 Minnesota income tax filings, state officials say there's no rush.

In fact, the Minnesota Department of Revenue says it won't begin processing paper filings before Jan. 30. People looking to claim residential energy credits or other property or business credits may have to wait until late February or March because of extensive IRS changes stemming from recent congressional action.

As in the past, the state is urging people to use electronic filing instead. Tax refunds are typically sent out faster that way and can be done through direct bank deposit.

Tax filings are due by April 15.
