Dickinson needs upgrades to water, sewer systems

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — The city of Dickinson will need to spend millions of dollars over the next few years to upgrade its water and sewer systems to support projected growth in the city.

The Dickinson Press reports that experts have identified more than $84 million in water-related projects needed to get water to resident and to remove it from homes, bringing it to the treatment plant that broke ground in August.

The plant cost $48 million. That brings the grand total to update the city's systems to $132 million.

City Administrator Shawn Kessel says Dickinson has to make the upgrades an immediate priority.

The population of Dickinson is estimated to have grown from 16,000 in 2000 to more than 20,000 today.
