Fargo-Moorhead (WDAY TV) - With the wicked cold weather moved in, you may be looking to add a little extra heat to your home.

Space heaters add comfort to a room without having to raise the thermostat, but there are some safety guidelines to remember.

Avoid using extension cords, and make sure to keep space heaters away from flammable materials.

Marshal Albright – Cass County Electric Cooperative: "A lot of house fires have happened because people don't use space heaters properly. They may put them too close to furniture, too close to drapes. And they can cause fires, so that has to be kept in mind when using a space heater."

Experts don't recommend using space heaters to heat an entire home.
