As temperatures dropped below freezing today, it seemed like more and more cars were running off of roads, sometimes into other vehicles. Once you get off of well-traveled streets and into neighborhoods or rural areas the roads only get more dangerous.
Driving around on both city streets and highways, we saw quite a few minor accidents. In Moorhead it was a busy day for tow trucks drivers and police. They were on scene after a minivan ran into a street sign. Then later in the day a taxi driver hit a sign then a MAT bus.
Several cars also slid off of highways and were stuck and waiting for tow trucks to come and pull them out.
Nick Grossman – Ed’s Towing Owner: “A lot of cars in the ditch, people just sliding through stop signs and fender benders and stuff. Not just the highways that are icy, but all the parking lots and side streets and stuff.”
Tow truck drivers say roads were the iciest they've seen so far this season, and warn drivers to slow down, put away distractions, and turn off cruise control.
