Jamestown, ND (WDAY TV) - About 100 Jamestown-based soldiers are preparing for a potential deployment next year.

The North Dakota National Guard's 817th Engineer Company received word this week of a possible mobilization.

The troops would deploy to Afghanistan in the spring of 2014. The early notification gives soldiers and their families more time to prepare for up to a year apart.

SFC. Paul Seher, Operations NCO: "There are still some unknowns that we're working through, and as time goes along we'll get that information and we'll put it out to the soldiers and we'll drive forward with preparing the best we can."

This would be the unit's third deployment, but the first to Afghanistan.
