Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) -- The group hoping to get Detroit Mountain up-and-running has hit a speed bump.
The Minnesota DNR recently denied a 2.6 million dollar grant application. The Detroit Mountain Recreation Area Group says that's disappointing, but they knew it would be a tough battle.
The group was fighting against 800 other applicants for the money. It'll look for other avenues of funding, like more donations, on top of the already 2 point 3 million dollars it's raised.
The group says re-opening Detroit Mountain will boost the local economy, and provide year-round outdoor recreation opportunities.
Mayor Matt Brenk of Detroit Lakes says, "Quite honestly at this point, the group think it's got enough horsepower on this project to make it happen without the grant."
