(WDAY TV) -- It might be painful, but it's time to start paying off that holiday debt.
The Village Financial Resource Center says you should put together a comprehensive budget.
Track your spending and find out where your money is really going. You can do that by pulling your bank statements. And depending on how much you owe, it might take awhile to pay off. But dealing with it is the first step.
Financial adviser, Joshua Huffman, says, "nobody likes doing a budget, nobody is excited to sit down and talk about money. But it's important to do that as a family and to really sit down because until you really know where your money is going in a month you can't put together a plan."
If you can, Huffman says, pay for things upfront to avoid extra charges associated with credit cards.
