Man sentenced for biting tribal police chief in North Dakota

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fort Totten man has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison for biting the arm of the police chief on the Spirit Lake Reservation.

Twenty-four-year-old Brandt Yankton was ordered to serve 27 months in prison and three years on supervised release. He pleaded guilty last August to a charge of assault on a federal officer resulting in bodily injury.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says Yankton bit through the skin on the right forearm of Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Chief Raymond Cavanaugh during a traffic stop in April 2012. Purdon says Cavanaugh required medical attention and has a permanent scar.

Yankton also goes by the name Brandt Jetty.
