Crookston, MN (WDAY TV) -- It's a love story like no other, A Crookston couple, after spending 65-years of marriage hand in hand died that same way, only hours apart.
Kip Vevea: "Whatever they did, they did together"
In a Crookston home they built together back in 1963.
"They were like teenagers. They had to hold hands all the time"
93-year-old Cliff Vevea and his 90-year-old wife Eva, sat side by side, hand in hand.
Judy Vevea: "He saw her somewhere, and knew she was the one"
Happily married for 65 years and proud parents to their only son Kip.
Kip: "this is me and my dad. I was probably five or six"
A lifetime of full of love, and lots of dancing.
Kip: "Dad was the kind of guy always dressing up, always"
Eva right beside him throughout the years.
Kip: "This is their new stove, they got back in 1949"
Making sure her family was well fed.
Kip: "That's one of the things dad was worried about if they went into the nursing home he wouldn't get her cooking"
But as their love began to age time took a toll on their health. And about two weeks ago, after the both suffered heart attacks, they knew their time together was almost up.
Kip: "they always said that they hoped to go together"
Cliff went first..last Sunday morning.
Kip: "The nurses told her that he was failing and she reached out and held his hand."
Judy: "They pushed their beds together"
And only hours later, Eva joined him.
Kip: "In a way it was a shock, and in a way it was a blessing. That's what they wanted"
Judy: "They had a good life, a very happy life"
And even though they're gone, Cliff and Eva's love will live on forever in everyone who got the chance to share their story.
"That's the main thing. We've been married 51 years. I guess we learned something"
Services will be Saturday in Crookston, where Cliff and Eva will be buried within arms reach of each other.
