Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Several NDSU players are on the brink of some rare company, playing in a national championship game in back-to-back years. But for two Bison players that were part of last year's championship season, this year won't be the same.
Welcome back to Frisco and our continuing coverage of the 2013 FCS championship. The defense has led the way all season for the Bison, a fact made even more impressive since they lost two all-conference starters during the year. Colten Heagle back in September and Leevon Perry right before the playoffs began against South Dakota State.
Dom Izzo: “What do you think you're going to feel on Saturday being on the sideline?”
Leevon Perry, NDSU Jr. Defensive Tackle: “A lot of everything. I'll be happy and nervous. I'll be frustrated and sweating during the game. But, I'm excited to see how they do.”
Colten Heagle, NDSU Jr. Strong Safety: “In the playoffs, it got kind of hard, starting a new season for the guys. But, I've been supporting them and just making sure they do well. The injury happened a long time ago, so I'm just enjoying this experience. Last year, I remember doing film and being nervous before the game, so i just get to sit back and enjoy it this year.”
Dom Izzo: “Having Colten out too, does that help at all, or does it just stink for both of you?”
Perry: “It's a little bit of both. I was happy to be rooming with him. We can relate to each other.”
One other bit of news from Frisco, it looks like NDSU will have to fill a date on its 2013 schedule, Western Carolina will likely buy out of their game in Fargo on September 21st. NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor said today, that "quote" he's not counting on the game to happen. Interestingly enough, UND has that date open.
