Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - They are leaving the valley in waves. Thousands of Bison fans headed to Frisco.
While many will sit back and relax on an airplane, hundreds are driving to Texas, as we speak. This afternoon, WDAY 6 Reporter Kevin Wallevand caught up with some of the road warriors on their way to Frisco.
For this group of Bison fans, a school bus turned RV will be home for the next few days.
Jason Davis, Headed to Frisco: “Today it’s making its journey.”
This afternoon Jason Davis and a crew of nine prepped the old bus for the long journey. It has all the comforts of home: Music, food and beverage. Make that Doritos and Crown.
Davis: “There's so many more things you can do in a bus. You can sleep, you can get up and walk around, you can watch tv, you can watch movies, and we can play the stereo. We'll probably get pretty excited when we get to that Texas border.”
Now when the guys found the bus it was in disrepair. In fact transients were living inside of it. But after a little remodeling the bus is now road-worthy.
Davis: “All the interior we redid. We sanded the exterior down and repainted it ourselves and pretty much rebuilt everything from scratch.”
Dan Beecher, Headed to Frisco: “We've had this one for a few years.”
And Dan Beecher along with his group of 20 are taking off tomorrow, a trailer packed full of survival gear: the life of a tailgator.
Beecher “We got one grill in here and then we're pulling another grill down behind us. The grilling surface is about four-feet by seven-feet.”
Some of his group left today, stopping briefly at the South Dakota line for a little harmless ribbing to the Jacks. All will meet in Frisco, enough food, drink and energy the size of Texas.
Beecher: “We'll probably feed 300-350 people again this year down there. So we use the heaters to keep all the food hot and we're grilling ribeyes and tri-tips. Going to Texas so we gotta do barbeque. We got brisket.”
Some serious miles ahead of them all but a game and experience none of them say they will miss.
Beecher: “Everybody has fun. The people of Texas love us. It's just a riot so it's worth it.”
