Hillsboro, ND (WDAY TV) -- We begin with an update on those five people who were hospitalized after a propane tank exploded in their ice house.

It was early Sunday morning, when Rod, Joel, Jacob and two friends were enjoying what they love. They were trying out their new fish house, in Duluth, when things went terribly wrong.

An explosion, burning their skin so bad, some weren't responsive. Today, I went to their hometown of Hillsboro, to find out more about the family who was struck by tragedy.

It's a small town like this. And quiet neighborhoods like this.

"We have lived in Hillsboro for 20 plus years..

Where bad things are just not supposed to happen.

"I just got a chill down my spine, just cause I knew the guys that would be an awful way, an awful thing to happen to anybody."

Glen Brustad lives on the same street.

"We've been neighbors to Rod Bolstand and his family for about the past 7 eight years."

Watched Rod's family and his sons grow. Watched as he enjoyed his passions.

"Always camping on weekends, going someplace, he was part of the boys' life and ice fishing to them was their winter lifestyle."

"He's spends a lot of time hunting and snowmobiling and spendin' time with his kids and."

You can see Dave's place, right across the way.

"Rod lives just two houses away from me."

But today, it's vacant.

The family, by Rod's, Jacob's and Joel's side as they recover. And like a small neighborhood does...

"Seems like a real good guy."

They'll continue to hope.

"To be avid fisherman and take part in the community again."

Rod Bolstad and his son Jacob are in stable condition. According to a close friend, the second son, Joel has been able to get up and into a wheel chair. Two others, Al Stokke and Willy Huotari were also hurt in the explosion. Al Stokke is in stable condition, but Huotari suffered serious burns, he is critical.
