WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo native who had left North Dakota for California couldn't resist the opportunity to become a city planner in the midst of the state's booming oil patch.
Donald Kress had been working as a city planner in Los Angeles when he saw an advertisement for a similar job in Williston. He was lured back to his home state in May because it's a "very dynamic place."
The 49-year-old tells the Fargo Forum that "planning climates" such as the one in Williston don't arise often.
As principal planner, Kress works with developers, evaluates projects and coordinates proposals.
