(WDAY TV) -- It's hard to say which was more unlikely at the start of the NFL season--Adrian Peterson, less than a year removed from ACL surgery, having a shot at two thousand yards and the single season rushing mark...or the Vikings, coming off a 3 win season, having a shot to make the playoffs.

A victory over division rival Green Bay would earn the purple a playoff berth. It was a charged up Metrodome for both those reasons.

Blair Walsh sends the Vikings to the playoffs for the first time since 2009 with the 29 yard game winner....37-34 Vikings win.

Capping one of the greatest turnarounds in franchise history--from 3 wins to 10, and the playoffs. AP finishes with 199 yards, eclipsing two thousand on the season but falling 9 shy of the single season mark.

Adrian Peterson says, "I told myself to come into this game focused on one thing and that's winning, doing your job and contributing, in the run game, the pass game, and ultimately, we came in here and got the ultimate goal, that was getting a win and punching that ticket to the playoffs."

Leslie Frazier, Vikings head coach, says, "This game was about our players rising to the occasion at home, against our arch rival. We knew what the implications were and just, kudos to our guys, it's just a special feeling for them."

So Peterson becomes just the 7th player to rush for two thousand yards in a season. His 2,097 this year is the 2nd highest total in history.
