Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- With nearly 24 hours to the new year, we're looking back at some of our favorite stories of 2012. This one looks at a newer version of online dating, targeting that lonely time as you wait for a connecting flight

There's a new dating website that's really taking off, at airports all over the world.

Schwartz: "Interesting I guess"

It's called meetattheairport.com, and it's already connecting thousands of users hoping to find love..at first flight.

Brakke: "it probably makes sense, I mean everybody is always on their phones and computers anyway"

Badenhorst: "it's a good opportunity to meet people. I mean if you're single and you're sitting at the airport waiting, you start talking to somebody and then it can work."

Even better for people trying to catch planes that end up delayed, or even canceled - often flying alone and now stranded in a new city.

"Would you use it?"

Badenhorst: "you can always look at it. I mean, it's not a bad idea."

Brakke: "Well, I'm married so probably not"

They way it works- members create a basic profile with personal information, then add flight details and their departure airport.

The site matches flyers based on interests, as well as travel arrangements.

But some only have a few hours to kill.

Badenhorst: "dating someone for an hour? I don't know about that"

Schwartz: "you can get to know somebody in an hour. So it's possible."

And for some the idea of meeting a companion, for travel or possibly something more, is definitely worth thinking about.

Brakke: "Two business travelers that just want to have a drink or dinner, and whatever happens after that I guess happens."

Badenhorst: "maybe it can lead to something better"

A flight connection..turned love connection. The site already has more than 20-thousand members worldwide.
