Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - For the many kids who had to spend Christmas in a hospital bed, holiday cheer may be a little harder to find.
But when you take a closer look inside of Sanford in Fargo, it's overflowing, thanks to local fire fighters.
It's a Christmas miracle for 5-year-old Taylah Erickson, who has to spend her holiday in the hospital. And thanks to Santa's helpers bringing gifts from the Fargo Fire Department…
Capt. Jesse Schmidt, Fargo Fire Dept.: "Firefighters donate portions of their paychecks"
She has a few extra reasons to smile.
Wanda Hoffmann, Taylah’s Grandmother: “It was awesome. I mean, that's the best thing they can do for these kids and some of them here are way worse than she is.”
Taylah is just one of about 40 children.
Hoffman: "They thought maybe she was having seizures"
Who woke up Christmas morning at Sanford Children's hospital, but who now all have gifts to open.
Schmidt: "Ideally it would be great if we got here and everybody was already at home, you know. But that's just not the way it is. So we try and make a difference."
Hoffmann: "Oh I just think it's awesome that these people do this for these kids."
A generous act that brings a holiday full of hope.
Schmidt: "The smile on kids' faces says it all"
Fargo firefighters also delivered presents to children staying at Essentia Health.
