Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - As the wind picks up and holidays roll through, local homeless shelters are filling up.
On a day like this…
Clifford Dixon, Living in a Shelter: "It's tough, but as long as you push through."
One meant to make memories, a day to share with your family.
Dixon: "She's eight weeks and three days."
One to rejoice with your brand new baby.
Dixon: "Glad I started a family"
A day to remember where you come from.
Dixon: "I'm from Gary, Indiana. I moved to Minneapolis when I was 14."
And day to celebrate - even if you're spending it here.
Dixon: "We met here at the shelter."
Clifford moved to Fargo,
Dixon: "A better economy and stuff like that."
Hoping to turn his life around.
Dixon: "I'm not in the streets and I'm not selling drugs no more."
He's not alone. Last night more than 80 people called Churches United their home.
John Roberts, Shelter Operations Director: "It's a painful place for folks to be who are homeless."
And on Christmas day, it's just as full.
Roberts: "Maybe it's the new normal because people are traveling to the Fargo-Moorhead area to find jobs."
Nearly 300 beds in the area,
Roberts: "The guys are hanging out today"
But not a single one to spare.
For Clifford, he hopes this time next Christmas,
Dixon: "In my own house"
He'll be able to offer his.
Along with a warm place to stay, Churches United also offered a Christmas brunch and dinner to anyone who was in need.
