Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- A West Fargo man is behind bars after assaulting three Fargo Police officers early this morning. Authorities say 39-year-old Archie Hopkins attacked the officers when they tried to arrest him on an unrelated, active warrant.

It was around 2 AM at Fargo's Holiday Inn when a simple noise complaint fueled by alcohol quickly escalated to a felony level assault case.

Lt. Joel Vettel/Fargo Police: "The individual started a physical altercation, ended up assaulting three officers in the process, punching all three of them, one in the face and the other two officers in the head"

Police say 39-year-old Archie Hopkins was one of about 30 people drinking inside the hotel who were all eventually asked to leave after disrupting other guests.

Vettel: "It sounds like there were multiple guests that were there, staying from multiple rooms that were partying"

I spoke with the head of security at the Holiday Inn, and she would not go on camera, but she said they did have an incident early this morning, where they received several noise complaints. After things got out of control, the police took over.

Vettel: "It was very rapid and very sudden. The situation went from fairly calm to very, very dynamic and ultimately when an individual attacks a police officer, in this case attacks three police officers, it certainly can be dangerous for everybody involved."

When police tried to break up the party, they discovered an active arrest warrant for Hopkins. And instead of giving in, they say Hopkins attacked.

Officers had to subdue him with a taser..in order to take him into custody.

Vettel: "Deciding and making the very bad decision to fight with officers, he is now being charged with class C felony in the state of North Dakota, which is a very serious crime."

A charge much more serious than his original misdemeanor warrant, that would have been avoided with cooperation.

Police say luckily, no one was seriously injured.
