Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- With Christmas just around the corner, many people are fighting the crowds to pick up last minute gifts. One store just started using new technology to make those holiday shoppers a little happier.
Lines are a little bit longer and crowds a little bigger as time runs out to get those holiday gifts.
Kristine Dale/last-minute shopper: I just kind of waited, life was busy and now it's caught up with me.
Kristine Dale drove in from Gilby and is hoping she will beat the holiday shopping chaos.
Kristine: That's why I got up at 5 o' clock, drove into town tried to get some grocery shopping done and Christmas shopping so I can get out of here.
Dale is not alone, there are plenty of people who are waiting until the last minute to get gifts. Bringing crowds of people to stores like J.C.Penney.
Nadine Carriere/J.C. Penney Sales Associate: "It is a lot busier I think then the Black Friday and people rushing in and things are priced so well right now that they're getting a better deal."
It may be a busy weekend but new technology like this is helping employees get people in and out of the store even faster.
Employees recently started using ipods and ipads to check people out, which can be done from anywhere in the store.
Kevin Flynn/J.C. Penney Store Leader: "They can find an associate, we can ring them up at that point they don't have to try and find where the checkout is at."
The store currently has 8 ipods for associates to use, which is making the stress of last minute shopping a little bit easier.
Nadine: "I use my ipad and smart phone and I think that's great."
Kevin: "They're busy, they're in a hurry, they want to get in and out and this helps them do that."
The store is planning on getting more i-pods in the future to make shopping more convenient.
