Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- The State Patrol is asking you to stay safe behind the wheel.

Troopers are reminding drivers to keep a safe distance. If it's snowing, it's mandatory to have your headlights on.

And if a snowplow is up ahead be extra careful to let them do their job without getting too close. But most importantly Lieutenant Brian Cheney asks us to think before you head out the door.

Cheney says, "plan your trip ahead, let people know what time you're leaving and what time you expect to be there, incase you do have vehicle trouble. And to know your route incase they need to come looking for you or call law enforcement to check and see if something has happened."

If you plan on drinking, find a designated driver. There will be extra patrols thru New Years to crack down on drunk driving.
