BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Taxable sales and purchases in North Dakota during July, August and September grew nearly 23 percent compared to the third quarter of last year, to more than $6.7 billion.

Tax Commissioner Cory Fong says North Dakota's wholesale and retail trade sectors were strong performers in the third quarter. Thirteen of 15 industries reported growth during the third quarter of 2012. Two sectors reported a slowdown: educational, health care and social services, and transportation and warehousing.

The western oil patch cities of New Town, Tioga and Watford City all saw large percentage increases in taxable sales over the year.
