Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - An NDSU agronomist says if a diversion is being built, water control is a must.
Hans Kandel is proposing that a device similar to this, be used to control drainage. Water from fields flows in one end, and out the other. There's a control structure in-between.
Kandel says it's a helpful tool for water management, with, or without the diversion. He says it protects valuable farmland from flooding, or from drought.
Dr. Hans Kandel, NDSU Extension Agronomist: "We can both control the flood, or at least store some water and at the same token, later, as the flood is gone, they open the gates, the water goes out, and crops can be growing."
He says the concept is relatively new and quickly gaining popularity in the farming community.
