Today busiest mailing day for those sending Christmas gifts

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Today is the busiest mail day of the year for the US Postal Service.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Today is the busiest mail day of the year for the US Postal Service.

For shoppers and businesses the window is closing on getting packages to their destination by Christmas.

They’re working hard at the Maple River Winery in Casselton to get all the bottles of wine and other Dakota Made products shipped today.

Adam Anderson, Maple River Winery: “All the orders started hitting on Friday and we are still working our butts off to get stuff done.”

They will ship over 400 items today,

Anderson: “We hit Florida, Texas, California.”

Orders to those faraway places won't make it after today. And it's not just businesses. At the Moorhead post office, the line was to the door.

Peter Dwyer, Mailing Gifts: “It wasn't too bad about 20 minutes at the most.”

Everyone is trying to make sure friends and family far away get their gifts, and once the post office has them relief.

Kelly Wilson, Mailing Gifts: “It's out of my hands now so.”

And if by chance they don't make it

Dwyer: “They've been late before but they still appreciate them.”

And we even found some mail heading out of the country.

Willis Stelter, Mailing Over Seas: “The People overseas will understand if they're not there in time anyway.”

So if you were stuck in line today just be thankful your packages are sent because back at the Maple River Winery, the work is not done.

Anderson: “Well we still have New Years to think about, so...”

For packages headed to Midwest locations, you still have a day or two to get it in the mail at regular postage rates.
