Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Hundreds of people streamed out of funeral homes after services for Jack and Noah then headed to two cemeteries.

They were among the 20 children and six adults killed Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary school. Twenty-year-old Adam Lanza is accused of walking into the school and opening fire. He turned a gun on himself.

One area school has been ahead of the game when it comes to school security.

Harwood Elementary is in lockdown when students are in class. Parents are "just fine" with the extra steps being taken.

When Troy Greenlund came to pick up his daughter Paige today, he like everyone else who comes to the school, had to call the front office.

Where Coralie Farkas took the call and walked out to let Troy in.

Coralie Farkas, Harwood School: “Answer the phone to see how I can help them. I can request ID and even see if someone can back me up.”

All outside doors are locked all day long. The only way in is through this phone and someone to confirm you can be allowed inside the school. The full lockdown stems from two-years ago, when a level three sex offender lived near the school.

Dr. Jerry Barnum, Harwood Principal: “It’s a very secure place and parents are very appreciative of that.”

Parents like Paige's dad Troy, is fine with that.

Troy Greenlund, Father of Student: “Good trade off, you have to sign her in and out. I feel like she is safe here.”

And the school is not only secure outside, but inside the building.

Farkas, Harwood School: “The doors are always locked. The doors have to always be locked.”

And while Harwood may be the first in the area to go locked down all the time, there seems to be support in the area for more schools to follow.

The only other area school to recently lock all outside doors is Westside Elementary in West Fargo.
