(WDAY TV) -- It's the second deadliest school shooting in our country's history.

And the fact it happened at an elementary school, has people across the country feeling for those parents. Police say the shooting took place in 2 rooms, but aren't releasing details on how it unfolded.

It happened in Newtown, Connecticut. Police say the shooter, 20 year old Adam Lanza killed 26 people, including 20 children before turning a gun on himself.

His mother is a teacher at the school and presumed to be one of the dead.

Surviving students told stories of hearing a lot of gun shots, huddling in corners and hiding in closets.

Some parents in Fargo were emotional as they picked up their children at school. Local officials say these students go through lockdown drills, in case there's an intruder. And will discuss if there's more to be done for student protection.

Dr. Jeffrey Schatz/Superintendent of Fargo Public Schools say, "will this cause us to continue to have those conversations? You bet. And we're always looking at what can we do better? As with any scenario you have to look at what occurred and are we prepared for something like that?"

Tonight at ten, Counselors tell us if this is something you should talk to your young children about, and how to respond if they have questions.
