Chicago, IL (WDAY TV) -- An MSUM graduate and aspiring comic is dead after falling down a Chicago hotel's smokestack.
23 year old Nicholas Wieme fell 22 feet down the smokestack of the Intercontinental Hotel on Michigan Avenue. Authorities say Wieme and his girlfriend climbed onto the hotel's dome to take pictures when he fell in around 1am.
He was able to communicate with her on his cell phone until she lost contact around 3:15 am. Firefighters spent hours cutting him out of the smokestack and he was pronounced dead after 5 this morning.
Sheriff Rick Duncan says, "Because of the temperatures and so forth we're hoping that Danielle either got a ride someplace and is still out there with somebody else, and hopefully somebody will give us key information about her missing."
An acquaintance who was with Jelinek Saturday night is in custody on unrelated charges. Jelinek's car, purse, cellphone, shoes and other belongings were found Sunday at his home in Chisago Lake Township.
