Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Rivalries are formed over a period of years when teams play each other consistently. It's safe to say NDSU and Georgia Southern are nearing that level, playing for the second straight year in the semifinal round, one step away from the title game.

Craig Bohl, 8-1 Playoff Record: “It's a privilege to be in the final four for a second straight year, this is where we want this program to be and what we've been working for.”

Friday won't be the first time NDSU has played the same opponent in back to back years in the same round. In fact it's happened twice before and it involved the same team for the Bison in Cal Davis.

The first time it happened was in 1982 and '83 when each team won. That happened two more times in 1984 and 1985 in the division two quarterfinals. The 1984 game with the Aggies will be remembered as one of the most exciting finishes, after the Bison had grabbed a 28-10 lead, Cal Davis came storming back and had a chance at the horn, but the final pass fell incomplete.

The same two teams met the following year this time in California and this time Davis was ranked No. 1 but the Bison veer dominated the day. Jeff Bentrim combined for two touchdowns as NDSU ripped Davis 31-12 en route to the national title that year.

Now Georgia Southern returns for a second crack at the Bison, filled with memories of how they felt after the game last December.

Jeff Monken, Georgia Southern Head Coach: “I think everybody would like to use revenge as a motivating factor. But, their kids will be as motivated as ours to make it to the national championship game.”

The Eagles have lost 2 straight times in the semifinal round.

And a reminder we'll have you covered on Friday night, live reports at 5, 6 and 10 and of course our pregame show and live blog on what should be an electric night at the Dome.
