Dilworth, MN (WDAY TV) -- Dilworth's police chief is back at work today after being placed on "temporary relief of duty" Friday afternoon.
Joshua Ebert's officers want him out, and tried to voice their concerns at a City Council meeting Monday night. Although Chief Joshua Ebert was officially back in the office today, he was hard to get a hold of.
I stopped by several times, and was told Ebert was in and out all day, and my phone calls were not returned. But Ebert did attend the city council meeting, where other officers told city leaders they wanted him gone.
Chad Olson?Dilworth Mayor: "He was at our meeting Monday night, so he was standing tall in the midst of all of this"
Six Dilworth Police officers introduced a letter to city council members, asking for Chief Ebert to resign or the city to request it.
Making their feelings of "no confidence in his ability" public for the first time.
Olson: "Last night was a shock to myself and to all of council. It was not part of our agenda. We were blind-sided by the efforts."
Olson says the city has procedures in place that were not followed.
Olson: "A public forum is not the time or the place to deal with personnel issues."
And although he would not comment on what prompted the letter, Olson says he has faith the department will be able to look beyond the dispute when it comes to serving the community.
Olson: "This issue has no negative impact on the professionalism of our department and that accusation is unfounded."
Even if it means Ebert working alongside officers who don't think he should be there.
Olson: "In terms of them working together- is it going to be difficult? Absolutely not."
Officers say Ebert worked until about noon today, then went home. I stopped by and his wife said he could not comment, but said he did not do anything wrong. An official complaint against him has not been filed.
