(WDAY TV) -- Adrian Peterson has always said he wants to be the best running back ever, and now he has a chance to not only go over 2,000 rushing yards, but he has his sights set on breaking Erick Dickerson's single-season record of 2,105 yard.

AP got the Vikings off to a great start against Chicago this afternoon,

breaking off a 51-yard run on the first play from scrimmage. The Vikings end up breaking a 6-game losing streak to the Bears. They win 21 to 14.

Peterson says, "We've been talking about controlling our own destiny. We were looking at this like a playoff game. The situation we're in we have to win out. That's the focus that we have. Coach is harping on it. So to come out and jump on it like that, it felt good, but you still have to stay focused."

The Vikings travel to St. Louis next Sunday.
