West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- It has been another emotional day for students at West Fargo High School today. A third death in the district this week.
18-year old Levi Schulz died this afternoon after he was struck by a pickup truck on Sheyenne Street, south of Interstate 94. Levi was on Sheyenne Street, calling for help on his phone after a tire on his car went flat, as he drove to school.
The North Dakota state patrol and West Fargo Police began reconstruction of the accident, minutes after the tragedy. It appears Levi was on his way to school when he blew a tire.
Joe Birrenkott/West Fargo Police: "He had gone out to check it and went out to Sheyenne street and was on the phone and hung up and crossed over and was hit by truck that was southbound on Sheyenne."
He had so much going against him, stopped on a curve, rush hour traffic, and it was still twilight.
Sgt. Troy Hischer/ND State Patrol: "That is the biggest thing, get off the roadway as best you can and wait for help and you cannot be walking around and in the driving lanes and things like that."
It is the second day in a row at West Fargo High School where staff has had to comfort students hurting. Tessa Miller died earlier this week, news today student Ian Alves passed away following a cancer battle and now Levi Schulz.
A vigil is set for 7:30 tonight at West Fargo's Elmwood Park. An open prayer service and vigil is planned for nine tonight at Triumph West on Sheyenne Street in West Fargo.
The driver of the pick-up, 35-year old Travis Egerdahl of Fargo was not injured in the crash. Levi was on life support today, his organs are being donated.
