Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Now that we're possibly in for our first major snow of the season, Fargo's Public Works Department is out making sure roads are ready for the wintry mix.

Employees at the public works department hit the roads late last night and continued all day, driving through Fargo's streets to coat them with a new anti icing product. They're expecting snow on Saturday afternoon.

For the first time, the city is using a salt brine-ice bite combination, to try to prevent ice from forming on the roads after snowfall. The product makes it easier for plows to clear the streets.

They say they're more than ready to tackle the snow, should it fall and make roads safe for drivers.

Ben Dow with the Fargo Public Works says, "up to this point it's been very slow. We've got to do a lot of work that we've been putting off the last few years. But we're ready for some snow."

The season's precipitation has been so minimal, employees are still using salt from last year's build up.
