Local businesses search for ways to get out of the smoking ban

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- It's the day smokers and bar owners alike have been dreading in North Dakota, the smoking ban has officially begun.

The issue Fargo Bar owners have is the stipulation that smokers have to be 20 feet from the door, basically eliminating all of those attached smoking sheds...or did it?

Anyone who's been here at JT Cigarro knows right as you walk in this first door, there's a closed off smoking room to your right.

The owner here says he found a way for people to still use that room for smoking. He's turning it into an owner operated business. People will pay 50 to 75 bucks a year for a membership to use it. Those people will then have a swipe card to get in.

And because no employee will be allowed in there, this falls under an exception to the new law.

Also, because it's not accessible to the general public.
