Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- People living in Fargo may see the city grow by nearly 50 thousand people, in the next 30 years.
Metro COG released its demographic forecast update, completed every five years. It predicts population for the entire metro area may jump by almost 40 thousand by 2020 and 85 thousand by 2040.
The numbers are used to update the regional traffic model, that needs to expand to fit the growing population.
Wade Kline, Metro COG Exec. Director, says, "what our projections say is we are going to continue to grow and our responsibility and your responsibility as a technical committee to recommend to a policy board is there is going to be costs in terms of transportation improvements."
Specific transportation projects may include expanding Main and 13th Avenues, as well as area interstates.
