Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Locked out Crystal Sugar workers tried to deliver a petition to the annual shareholders' meeting this morning, but were stopped at the door.

The group says it wanted to present 100-thousand signatures from supporters. Some of them inside Christmas wrapped packages.

Workers met prior to the shareholders' meeting to discuss how the 16-month lockout has hurt their families. They say the company is no longer willing to come to the table for negotiations.

Sandra Fish, a locked out worker's daughter, says, "I feel ashamed to tell me friends I could hardly afford anything. Do you know how embarrassing that is? No, you don't. These workers put their heart and soul into their job. They give everything so they can put food on the table for their families and afford clothes."

Regarding the petition, CEO David Berg says it was a busy morning, and they didn't want to disrupt the meetings.
