Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Moorhead police officers are out in the community, giving back during the holiday season.

Several officers and members of the department spent the day volunteering for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign.

They were staffed at all kettle locations in Moorhead, such as the Moorhead Center Mall with donations going to cover the Salvation Army's year round programs.

All of the volunteers were off duty, doing this on their own time and grateful for the kindness of the community.

Lt. Tory Jacobson, Moorhead Police: “I thoroughly enjoy just having the opportunity to meet the citizens that stop, wonderful people. Just a chance to wish them well, appreciate having the interaction and I'm very proud to represent the police department.”

The police department is in a red kettle competition with Moorhead's Fire Department, who will be collecting later this month.
