Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- It's back to work for the Bison this week as they prepare for Saturday's 2 pm kickoff against Wofford in the FCS quarterfinals.
Bison Fans are wondering if NDSU has any more tricks in it's bag, after seeing Ryan Smith score on a quirky play in the 2nd quarter.
Smith's small 5-7, 175 pound frame was the key on that 32-yard touchdown
that gave the Bison a 14-3 lead. He lined up behind a stood up offensive line, and nobody saw him take the handoff, as Brock Jensen carried out a fake option the other way. It was good execution on a well rehearsed play.
Head Coach, Craig Bohl, says, "The one thing that you can probably count on with South Dakota State is that they are going to do their do diligence and look at all of our tape and see the situation. And we've been running a sprint option in that situation. So, I thought it was a pretty timely call."
Brock Jensen says, "We wanted to make sure we huddled closer to the line of scrimmage to allow us to hide Ryan a little bit. It was a quick snap and all of the other side of the line just waited there. And Ryan stood there with the ball for a couple of seconds and took off and there was nobody within 40 yards of him."
Ryan Smith says, "I was excited when it got called because just to know I get to touch the ball and it was a touchdown too, so it worked out really well."
Your viewing options for Saturday's quarterfinal showdown at the Fargodome
will be the same as this past week. The game will be carried on ESPN 3 and
also available through ESPN gameplan, which is a pay-per-view service.
