UND medical school to seek money for new building

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The University of North Dakota medical school plans to ask the Legislature next year for $124 million for a new building.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The University of North Dakota medical school plans to ask the Legislature next year for $124 million for a new building.

Dean Joshua Wynne tells the Grand Forks Herald that a new building would help the school cope with enrollment growth, eliminate long-term maintenance costs associated with the existing 60-year-old building and potentially bring in more federal funds.

The school also has two other, less costly options that call for an expansion rather than a new building.

During the 2011 session, the medical school unsuccessfully sought $29 million for an expansion. UND ended up getting $1.8 million to train more doctors and other health care workers.
