An increasing number of kitchen fires could affect your insurance

Minnesota (WDAY TV) -- If the number of kitchen fires continues to climb in Minnesota, it could have an affect on your insurance.

Minnesota's ranked in the top 10, for the states with the highest number of kitchen claims. State Farm Agent David Eggers says the company is always assessing the number of claims.

That's how it determines whether or not it to raise rates.

Eggars says, "we are trying our best to calculate that up front. And that's how we charge our premium, based on what we think is going to happen. Now, as a result, if the losses are worse than what we predicted, then we have to take in a rate increase in the future."

The average cost of home insurance in Minnesota is between 800 and 12 hundred dollars a year
