Crookston man is sentenced 20 years for his connection to a fatal crash

Crookston, MN (WDAY TV) -- A Crookston man will spend 20 years in prison in connection with a fatal crash in 2011.
24-year-old Ricardo Mello stole a police car, then lost control of the vehicle, hitting a pickup. The crash killed 78-year-old Eddie Briggs of Thief River Falls.
Mello will have to submit a DNA sample, pay 36 thousand dollars in restitution, and can't ever own a gun.
