Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Powerball is ready to draw numbers for its biggest jackpot ever tonight, more than a half-billion dollars.

As the pot gets higher, more people are choosing to take their chances in hopes of winning the big bucks.

This morning, it was at $500 million, and has now grown to $550 million.

Those buying tickets already have big dreams for their hypothetical winnings.

The possibility of enormous wealth has brought Powerball to its highest jackpot yet.

As the huge numbers continue to grow, they have drawn in many first-time lotto players.

Dave Shermin, Moorhead, Resident: “Big dough, gotta give it a shot!”

Many say they'd start with the rather unglamorous paying of their debts.

But with more than half a billion dollars on the line, they could afford some spoils.

Shelby Foltz, Fargo Resident: “Probably buy like a house, lake home, some cars, and then I don't know. It's all up in the air from there. Vaca!”

Daniel Grundl says he would donate money to causes that are important to him, like Autism awareness. But he would keep some for himself.

Daniel Grundl, Moorhead Resident: “I would go back to school and I wouldn't worry about getting a job, I would study things that I want to study, like English, and Psychology, and Philosophy.”

And then there's the question of work - a jackpot that big could make a person financially set for life.

Still, some say they couldn't leave their jobs.

Jesika Jaeger, Fargo Resident: “I would continue to work. I enjoy working. I'd probably get bored if I didn't work.”

Others are just fine with the idea of clocking out for good.

Shermin: “Sayonara! I'm gonna take off and enjoy the sunshine, I think.”

People have just about three hours left to buy tickets: Minnesota closes sales at 9pm, North Dakota at 8:58, and the drawing is tonight at 9:59.
