Pelican Rapids, MN (WDAY TV) -- Uncertainty over a school bus contract is plaguing the Pelican Rapids School Board. It's contract could be cut early, leaving the district with big decisions.
This would be quite a change for Pelican. It's been working with the same company for more than 25 years.
Wanek: "it's unnerving, but we've had really good service."
And if the owner retires, that relationship between the Pelican Rapids School District and Christianson Bus Company could come to an end.
Blixt: "Nothing may happen at all though, we may sail right along."
That's the uncertainty. The company hasn't decided. It could fulfill it's contract with 1 1/2 years left. Or it could put in it's 30 day notice.
If the contract is cut early, the board would either have to take bids, or look into running busses themselves. Either way, it's hoping to cut costs.
Right now it pays half a million dollars each year.
Blixt: " it's unfortunate we've spent all this time and energy working on this when we really don't have anything definite, but at the same time we need to make sure we are prepared if something does happen."
Bus companies hoping for a potential Pelican Rapids contract can go to a board meeting next Tuesday at 6:30. It's not taking bids, but it will listen to general information on what the company could do for the district.
